Believe it or not sometimes the Interviewer may be equally as nervous. Below we want to share 7 Quick tips for Interviewing that may help you through your process: #1 BE ON TIME: Being on time is getting there 15-20 minutes early. This gives you time to use the restroom, walk around to get rid of the “nervousness”, and etc. #2 LOSE THE CELL PHONE: Looking through your phone may help you cope with nervousness but it’s NOT PROFESSIONAL showing that you won’t be the employee that’s glued to your phone verses being glued to your work can be a potential RED flag and may LOSE you the Job before the interview takes place. #3 REMOVE THE GUM: If your mother was like mine, you can image your mother saying LOSE THE GUM before speaking to someone. The same rule applies during interviews, please remove the gum and pop in a mint that’ll dissolve before you meet with your interviewer. Fresh breath is pleasant, but chewing and popping gum is annoying. #4 DRESS FOR THE ROLE: Get rid of the jeans and shirt and put on the Black slacks and button up with casual shoes (flats, heels, black or neutral colors are best). Being dressed properly for the role may play a 25% chance of landing you the part. NO CLUB WEAR, NO HANGING AROUND THE HOUSE WEAR but PROFESSIONAL CASUAL WEAR! Keep it professional from head to toe. #5 BE CONFIDENT: This is obviously easier said than done. Confident doesn’t mean cocky, just sure that you’re the RIGHT person for the JOB. Think of this as you selling a product to a customer (the product being your skill set) the customer being your potential employer. Convince them that you’re it and that their search is over. Hold your head high, give eye contact, smile, and keep your shoulders back. Last but not least BE THE BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF! #6 STAY ON TRACK: Remember during the Interview to stay on track with your answers. If your interviewer asks you about your strengths don’t talk about a dream you had last night about your ex rather stop, breath, and listen (it’s okay to ask them to repeat it) and then give straight forward answers with at least one example to support your answer(s). #7 END WITH A BANG: Don’t ask questions regarding pay as that will be disclosed when necessary, have your questions ready (Google questions to ask interviewers), give a firm hand shack, and great eye contact, make sure you get their business card. And after the interview send a “Thank You” card just thanking them for their time. We don’t guarantee that these tips will land you the job, but it will help increase your chances. Let us know if these tips helped you during an Interview we would love to feature your story in our next Career Corner article.
